My friends are moving to somerset and are looking for a livery yard. either a yard with spaces or a yard for rent that they will run themselves... does anyone know of anything please? Generally speaking between Yeovil, Glastonbury and Taunton thanks

There used to be one at Curland, half way between Ilminster and Taunton: Curland Equestrian Enterprises. Just googled it, it still exists. It had a good reputation 30, er, no, 40 years ago! Doesn't time fly............................... MTA It's in quiet back lanes and close to the Neroche forest.

Changed a bit since then, kafee - I used to go there 30 or 40 years ago and the 2 proprietors had some very good horses for the more experienced to ride. Do you remember Blue Chip? I rode him round the XC course - oh, my! I last saw the place a few years ago when I went to an equine boot sale in the indoor arena - it looked very run down and shabby. Very sad EM - what facilities does your friend want? I'll ask around for you.

This estate agent deals with a lot equestrian/ farm properties in my area locally... to rent and land auctions its worth keeping an eye on. www.davidjames.org.uk/cgi-bin/properties/commercial_property_to_rent.pl?Start=30&Null_Search=NThere are loads of empty livery spaces at the moment around WSM it seems ? sign of the rescession hitting hard and high somerset prices or perhaps the increase in liverys appearing and poor service providers locally who knows? However there are some extremely good liveries around WSM with excellent reputations.. that do DIY, assisted and full and some that have very poor and chequered history! So I can provide info if required about particular ones in WSM area with local word of mouth knowledge and experiences. I wish your friends luck. I would also recommend they enquire via the local riding clubs in the area.... xxx

It was state-of-the-art in the late 60's when it started! I mean, it had INDOOR SCHOOL! Unheard of in those days, well, I'd never heard of one before anyway. I don't think I ever actually rode there, and I certainly wouldn't have been going round a cross country course. I learnt to ride at the riding schooling in West Hatch, can't remember the name at the moment, but I spent my lessons going round and round in a square sand school.
