Just thought I'd put an indulgent thread on here to say that I kept my NY resolution today of riding more and rode both the boys.....
First of all was Mr P - I lunged first as I've not riden for weeks with all the frost / snow on the ground. In fact the last time I hacked him, he cantered off with me so I was a little nervous. He was quite lively so glad I lunged first - only for approx 15 minutes. Once he was calm I got on and walked up the road and he was very well behaved, if a little on his toes. I then went back past the house for a proper hack. We went along the river which was still frozen (so no fishermen ;D ) but it was cracking whilst walking along it. P was very well behaved walking everywhere I asked - no jogging / pulling. We then passed some dog walkers and he wanted a little jog/trot and I alllowed as I was rather cold. We got to the end of the bridle path, crossed the bridge and came back along the other bank - jogging / trotting all the way - no fighting, a little bit of pulling but nothing like he used to. No full pelt trot.
Once we hit the road he walked on a long rein and was very well behaved when the horses he was watching in a field had a little canter around. I am absolutely loving the pelham ;D I used 2 sets of reins and hardly needed the bottom set. On the very last bit home I took my feet out the stirrups and had a lovely little controlled trot, waving to the OH as we passed the livingroom window.
I then warmed myself up with a tea and took Blue out - we had a little wander down a private track we've recently been given permission to use. We weren't out too long as I wanted to get back before it was dark.
I have similar rides planned for tomorrow ;D
A very happy Nina ;D
