I have changed from Hi Fi Lite to Top Chop and my horse doesn't like it. I stopped giving him breakfast, as he always left it, but now he has started to leave his evening feed as well. Up to now he has always cleared up the evening feed even if he didn't eat it all to start with.
He has Top Chop, with Charnwood linseed and a small amount of Brewers Yeast, alphafa pellets and Top Spec vitamin and mineral supplement at half rate, mixed up with a small amount of unmolassed sugar beet pulp and topped off with some spearmint to make it smell nice. He just seems to prefer his hay and will leave the feed to eat the hay.
He has eaten unmolassed feeds before, in fact he loved the Simple System feeds he has had in the past.
I ordered some unmolassed Dengie feed from Countrywide and they said they won't stock it and won't get it for me. I was cross as they sell a lot of Dengie feeds and I wasn't the only person wanting it as when I ordered it they said they had had several enquiries about it.
Not quite sure what to do now about feeding the beast.

My horse hated top chop as well - not much help to you though, sorry! In fact, no one would eat it, not even the equine dustbins that are exmoor ponies!! The dengie good doer is apparently their lowest calorie that is not the unmollased, and Jos has that just now (most of that ends up on the floor though, he doesn't like it much either )

I had a sample of the Dengie unmolassed and he liked that, so I was hoping to get it in my local store.

Is there really much point in feeding it? If you're feeding alfa pellets and unmollassed beet pulp there doesn't seem much point in adding a light chaff.
When I changed onto top spec lite my horse wouldn't eat it so I changed over more slowly and now he loves it.
Alternatively, if you're only feeding a small amount and your horse is't fat Dengie's Alfa-oil doesn't contain mollasses.

I soaked the alphafa pellets so that seems to have done the trick tonight.

Glad the soaking has worked for now.
Can't believe Countrywide refused to stock the new Dengie feed though! All three of our local feed merchants were happy to order it in for me. If you still want to switch to it eventually, maybe worth contacting Countrywide's head office and querying the decision. If they are getting Dengie deliveries anyway why can't they add a bag of it on for you? Seems like terrible customer service to me.
