Just noticed in TV guide Bruce Parry is on BBC2 9am and programme includes siberian horse breeders and traditional siberian horse training techniques, maybe interesting?

Is that the one where he nearly gets trampled when trying to help? I thought it was a very interesting documentary. What intigued me was that many of the herders have appartments in town and yet they very much prefer to live in tents and stay on the move in the most inhospitable environment. They treat the ponies pretty well considering - relying on them so much I suppose, though I wouldn't like to be a man or a pony in that cold!

Very interesting programme imo. Not sure it was the one you were thinking of Francis. Yuk to the flies and midges though, the numbers were horrendous!

I saw this too, different from the other programme, what did you think of them sitting on those reindeer? Wow! Those midges looked dreadful! Interesting programme

The reindeer looked very small to ride - and hard to balance on I thought. Bit like riding a big dog!

The reindeer looked very small to ride - and hard to balance on I thought. Bit like riding a big dog! Yes and they chose the bigger males too. The saddle affair looked odd but couldn't get a good look. Definitely chair seats going on there and no chance of staying on a bucking reindeer sitting so far forward as the presenter found out. I liked the spiritual parts in the programme too. The mouth harp had an incredible tone, must be most hypnotic to experience there in that setting.
