I don't usually rug my youngsters but the recent severe weather forced me to put one on my yearling and he has now got used to it. The problem is the rug fits Ok in length but does not fit his shoulders as he has not filled out his chest yet. Does anyone know of any narrow chested outdoor rugs on the market or specific foal rugs.

I used to sew a sort of pleat into each shoulders when I used to rug yearlings for showing. However I also found that Shires rugs fitted babies really well.

afrer lots of trial and error I recently bought a 4'9 weatherbeeta rug for a yearling . he was born with a cleft pallatte so small for his age, about 12 hands ish, he does well but I didn't want to take any chances with him over the winter
this rug fits snugly, it won't do him next year but its the only one I have tried that fits reasonably well at the neck and shoulders, I tried foal rugs and they wern't deep enough and other makes had necks so big he could have walked straight trhough them but the weatherbeeta is doing well

I like horseware rugs as they tend to come up small around the shoulder. I'd go for a wug style (half neck) as they're likely to fit better than a standard neck
