I have a Rhinegold tartan stable rug, looks mediumweight, has a heat reflecting space blanket lining, is guaranteed to -25C and it's lasted me for about 8 years now. Crystal is really harsh on rugs, this is the only stable rug she hasn't trashed! Keeps her warm and toasty, even in harsh weather like we had, she's clipped, but with that and a fleece underneath, she's just toasty.
Only paid about £15 in the sales for it as well!!!!

I had one of the first nylon rugs ever made by Lavenham ( around 1972) ----scarlet with a horrid brushed nylon lining to which bits of straw stuck so you had to put it over a linen Summer sheet . I used it nearly every year until it was 25 YEARS OLD. I wrote to Lavenham thinking they would be interested------------------they weren't I think it finally died under the teeth of a two year old some years later by which time it must have been around 30 --------------now that's what I call a well made ( if not designed) rug. ;D

Fals and Rambos see to be pretty tough on my herd. I've got Fals that must be ten years old and are still waterproof. I have to admit though, my rugs are only ever washed and reproofed if they need repair. Other than that I just hose the worst dirt off and then hang them up to dry. I've found that it really is worth paying the extra for good, well made, well fitting rugs.
Having said that i'll probably go up this afternoon to find them all shredded and hanging off!
