Hi, Do you need planning for a round pen? We have put a permanent surface down and are having complaints about our pen...

Ooh K8 how awful, complaints (some people have nothing better to do) I dont know the answer kate but with mobile field shelters as they are not permanent then you generally dont need PP As the pen can be easily dismantled and moved in 20 mins or so then i would of thought the same applies as its not 'permanent' so to speak, but dont know for sure

That its too high and a mess! To be fair it is a mess, the whole place is a mess, but there is nothing we can do! Until we have the stables up and / or another field to move them too then we're screwed!! By spring, we can get the fields rolled and reseeded, but until then we're stuck! We are going to call the council and invite them round to explain how we are going to sort it all out! Bl00dy neighbour he's been nothing but a pain!

Why involve the Council unless he has complained, they will only start nit picking. Could he just be all hot air? The Council may not agree with what you consider to be sorting it out. How high is it? Mine is at the bottom of my garden (not a large garden) and is about 6' x 50' with wood and sand. Any body asks its to grow cacti in because of global warming!

Misty, he's already complained to the council. So we thought we'd invite them here before they ask to come! Kinda get in there and nip it in the bud so to speak!

You are not officially allowed to change the surface permanently without planning permission, and any structure must be moveable - so officially you should have had permission, but normally they will only enforce if someone complains, so sadly you may now have to make an application retrospectively.

Changing the surface is classed as a "work of engineering". That is where your problem may arise with PP and the local authority, not really the RP.

Fair do's then K8. Just be as nice as pie and ask for their suggestions. Try and make sure most things are moveable (even if they're not). Good luck.
