I have an 'understanding' with a couple of other liveries at my DIY yard! I scratch their back and they scratch mine as and when the need arises. One particular livery turns my boy out during the weekdays and i will do the 'bringing in' at the other end of the day. Also when she holidays away i'll take care of her mare... and she'll do the same for me when i have any time away.... So,... it works very well... and no money is exchanged... just Good Will! Amber x

At out little DIY yard we all help eachother out for free. We all do visual checks of all of the horses when we're there, mine are out at grass and the others are stabled at night so this gives me the freedom to have some evenings off knowing they'll be checked.
I have had my boy on assissted DIY where they either turned him out of brought in for me so I only had to go up once a day.
If I knew someone I trusted who'd come in from outside to do daily chores I'd pay for holiday cover, and if my livery wasn't already very expensive I'd be tempted to pay for regular help with poo picking.

I'm also on DIY, and we do help each other out on the daily chores or over shorter absences. I do have an issue with some people not doing their share of poo picking and essentially leaving it to the other liveries to do their work, unpaid and without ever returning the favour. In that case, or for example if I couldn't do my share for a while due to injury, I'd expect to pay someone to do the work. Either one of the other liveries if they have the time, or someone hired for the purpose. Problem is finding someone to do the poo picking. I wouldn't be comfortable sending someone underage into the field of horses without supervision, and most of the other liveries are short on time, even more so than short on money.

Definitely yes if you trust the person. I have done both part and full livery and it has been very successful.

i am reluctant to because previously i have and I hated it and it didnt work out , however a friend and I share the responsibility as we both trust each other with our horses. I would pay someone to muck out if necessary

I do, at my yard there is only 3 of us, and I pay a £1 a day for my boy to be given breakfast and hay. Works perfectly as I trust my friend, she is a fabulous horse person. When I was looking for yards and found where I am now, it was perfect but only problem was distance from home, it meant fantastic riding and yard but realistically would be a nightmare getting there before work so helps me out and also better for the horses as they are all fed together by one person so no stressing over being left out and because he is with another they would need to be done together and didn't want to take advantage so agreed on a small contribution. I do return the favour and do the odd morning when I'm off
