After lots of recommendations for racesafes on here I went off to try them on... and apparently I have bad conformation so they don't fit The lady in the shop said all BP's should come to just below your lowest rib at the front of your chest and none of the racesafes did - apparently the 'long' ones are longer at the back but not the front Of the ones they had, the Air-o-Wear Outlyne fitted me the best but compared to the racesafe (and my current ancient one) it's really thick and clumpy. I need a long one and they didn't have one in stock so will have to go back and try it on in a couple of weeks. I'm really reluctant to buy online as having tried a few on, some makes just really don't fit at all, but I'm not exactly champing at the bit to spend loads on one that's not really what I wanted

Hello! Well having had my own tack shop business I know the Racesafe very well and it was indeed my top seller. Are you after a RS2000? It is a little shorter in the front (it's not alone there though ie; the Cobra) than some of the tabard style BPs but like all BPs they do 'drop' as they relax, so you need to take in account for that. How short from your last rib was it? The issue with too short a rib coverage could cause a pressure point on impact and insufficient protection of the rib cage. It's interesting as lots of proffessional riders wear short BPs and for a lot of riders this is 'cos the feel more supple, especially in jumping position and I definately believe a BP that's too long (front or back) is far more dangerous! The longer cut Racesafe should be longer on both sides as it's for long backed people so as long as it then doesn't come down too far past your coccyx should be fine for you. Failing that, contact the company direct as they may offer a tailored service; worth it for the right BP!

Hi, the adults small RS2010 was about an inch and a half above my last rib, they didn't have a long version in stock for me to try.
Lark, are they suppose to come as low as your coccyx at the back? All the ones I tried came to about where low rise jeans would come to.

www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=425761This thread might help. I know that a lot of people rate the Kan-teq for the fit. If you are going to try BP's on, it might be an idea to take your saddle so that you can sit in it and know whether the BP will catch on your saddle. Just a thought...

I know there shouoldn't be a price on safety.... but I'm not sure I can bring myself to spend £225 on a Kanteq one when I can't go and try one on first to see what the feel and look like in the flesh (in fairness their webpage does say they'll send a few to try then you send back ones that don't fit). I just called Racesafe, they don't sell direct to the public so they told me to call Treehouse Saddlery and the lady was very helpful, she's asked me to take various measurements and call her back. She said if none of the 'standard' sizes fit she can get me one made a bit longer for only £15 extra
