I've been lucky enough to get out a few times recently. My horses are usually turned away over winter, but this winter I've kept them ticking over so have ridden more than usual. I actually feel more connected with the as instead of getting on and training hard for endurance I have had time to massage, do ground work and just fuss over the horses. This is the positive side of winter.

This flu thing really knocks you out, doesn't it? Weather wise, in Kent, we have had it a lot better than some. I was just getting back into riding daily when the heavens opened last Friday and it hasn't really stopped since! But today I clipped my hairy beastie, she was getting too hot in her winter woolies to work comfortably, so off it has come, just left her fluffy legs on to protect her from the mud. As soon as the bliddy rain stops we are beginning our keep-fit campaign

yup struggling big time between flu, christmas, snow and now relentless rain I spend all my time doing the basics,
can't remember the last time I did anything productive with sage and it shows, he is stressy and dispalying lots of stallion behaviours that he doesn't normally do when in regular work.
don't wont to go along the flooded bridle path, roads a bit more dangerous than usual with fog etc and I can hardle walk in the fields never mind ride and my schooling area is full of mares who despite the unsavoury weather still keep coming into season
I know he will go back to being his usual sweet self in the spring but right now life is no fun,

No wonder you're feeling poorly, Kanga. Look after yourself, (as well as Flynn).

Kanga thats rubbish :-( look after yourself! im still trying to get flu jabs sorted, i get one every year but didnt go for it this year, but considering 2 people at work have had it, one of them had it twice or it hung around and crept back out again, i thought i should. Now having problems with getting it sorted ;-S i didnt have swine flu jab last year as i was sceptical about it as it appeared on the market so quickly.
I think we all need some sunshine!!!

Yep, definately. I'm feeling very sorry for myself today. Haven't ridden my horse for 8 weeks or more either. First I was ill (had to have a minor op), then turned out I was pregnant too (VERY unplanned) and I got sickness, dizzyness from anaemia etc at the same time as the weather hit and it was hard enough for fit and well people to make it up. Luckily the people at the stables were great and rallied around, but it was hard not seeing him much. He had to go onto haylage as we couldn't get hay to the yard, so he's now fat and unfit. Just when I was starting to get to see him again and starting to feel like we knew each other again, he started having breathing problems quite suddenly and has been diagnosed with a dust allergy and is on a short course of ventipulmin. Not sure of the trigger but possibly a new supplier of shavings. I had about 4 days of both of us being just about normal and healthy, and now I've got a terrible cold and feel like death again! I know it's not flu because I've had the jab, but it feels like it. Just feel like someones got it in for me at the moment

sympathy to all the flu sufferers. my whinge is work and dark mornings/nights means I'm not seeing the horses for most of the week. OH goes up at 6.15 when I leave for work to feed/check, then hays at 4.00 to try and do it in the (semi) light. I don't get home before 6.00 at teh earliest so am only seeing mine at the weekends (and the occasional day I work at home). OH is absolutely wonderful doing it all alone, but I miss the horses so much it hurts. can't wait for light evenings.
