My Blaze comes under this heading. 100% in all traffic, an absolute plod for a novice or child, fun, forward going ride if you are confident. Jumps anything, has a go at everything. She has never bitten, kicked or even put her ears back since the day I bought her. She is Mary Poppins in a horse suit!! Practically perfect in every way!

it takes years to get to a stage where you feel safe on your horse. after all they are flight animals and these things take time....... literally.
i see a difference between my 2 girls. one is 15 (charisse~) and the other is 12.( asti)
charisse is fantastic and hardly anything phases her ever. then again she has been there and continued to do it since she was 3.
Asti was a field ornament until 2 years ago and is now up and coming but i can never relax fully on her cause she can spook and be phased at large vehicles, buttercups, flies..... you get it!!!! ;D
horses are worth their weight in gold when they can truely be advertised as a novice ride.

I don't personally think it's about being a novice ride so much as a safe and reliable one

I don't personally think it's about being a novice ride so much as a safe and reliable one which is what a novice would be looking for

In the case of my two Rio would be a novice ride, but Tess wouldn't, she's too sharp and forward thinking, which is why I personally wouldn't say they were the same thing

This is where I appreciate her so much having a safe horse on the roads. Vicky was such a star, we are both loving our hacking, and today we had gale force winds and rain, main road is closed so diversion is along the lane we had all sorts come past us, did she move nope, not a inch. Four tractors and trailers came past. Sorry just had to share. Kate isnt this what you should be looking for if you do end up buying? id love oen like that , im not competative enough nowadays to be bothered with all the faffing that babies(young horses) need, a safe horse is one in a million, while barney is bomb proof he wouldnt think twice about chooking me off if the notion took him, thankfully onl;y happened once since ive owned him (8 years nearly)

I don't even think its age - my Gaystar was the same from the day she was first handled until when she died nearly 30. A beautiful 13.2 NFx piebald pony bred by Lady Darnley (there's posh) and never put a foot wrong. She never made a fuss with the farrier, took everything in her stride, never spooked, loaded, never got stressed, would walk down the M25 if asked and didn't mind where she lived as long as she had her haynet! She was the first horse my farrier shod after his horrific accident as he knew she would be fine, taught 100s of nervous children (and adults) to regain their confidence, and even stood like a rock when another horse put its leg through the trailer partition and kicked it over on her. She was a total poppet yet won loads of jumping (when SHE was in the mood lol) and was a demon out hunting or cross country in pairs. The best thing ever said about her was that' she bought happiness to everyone that came in touch with her' - a perfect epitaph. She died peacefully with her head in my lap.

I agree a lot of it comes down to trust and knowing your horse. I've had my boy 8 years now and know before he does if there is something that will spook him!, and in the same way he knows if I say its ok it is ok

Eden - I agree 100 percent. I have two older "teenagers" and they are both stars, wouldnt part with them for anything.
