Hi & Happy New Year to you all :-)
As some of you may remember I bought a colt a few months ago, he is now 8 months old and is fantastic, however I am now worrying that I am giving him too much hayledge. Should I be weighing it or just going with the flow? If you think I should weigh it should I give him a % of his body weight?
He also gets 2 hard feeds a day, 2 handfuls of mare & youngstock mix & 2 handfuls of alfa a oil in each feed.
Thanks for your help samxxx

Well I weigh ALL my feeds and hay. A foal should have ad lib hay or haylage so that is not a problem------------he will not over eat bul food. As for hard feed , my newly weaned 7 month foal is on two hard feeds a day totalling 1 kilo ( 2 1/4 lbs ) of D& H Foal Mix ( not Mare and Youngstock mix whch is suitable for yearlings not foals) and 1 lb of Alfa A . -----------half in each feed. I would expect this to go up when he is 8 to 9 months old. Oh, and Frankie is expected to mature around 15. 2 hh.

Hi, condition wise he looks great, but he is putting on weight just don't want him to be putting it on too fast. We weighed & measured him last weekend & he stands at 14.1hh & weighes 228kgs
I have spoken to our vet this week as he has had his flu & tet and according to him what he gets sounds about right just wanted some reassurance from you guys too :-)
He will make 16.2hh + according to the breeders.
