for Toffee, still suffering with very itchy skin in places, mainly her armpits at the front. Driving her to distraction. Today trimmed off as much fur as i could with scissors so i could then bathe it with out making her too soaking wet. Used some tea tree, and then smothered the very sore areas with manuka honey, hope it soothes Will have to do the same tomorrow, and give the vets a ring on wednesday and see what they suggest. I might have to call in a favour from a friend to come and help me clip her, although she might kill and eat us both before the clippers even touch her

hmmm i dont know whether she might have lice i guess just because i cant see them doesnt mean they arent there, been covering her in lice powder, but reading that its only a preventative not a treatment, (we were doing it just incase) Tiny has two areas on his back that he has been rubbing, i just thought it was remains of SI but thinking about it he hasnt rubbed else where, and those two do groom each other alot so could be sharing the lice around the other two dont appear to be itching atm tho.

hmm on reflection and talking to Julz, i do wonder if she is too warm in her rug, and im being far too over protective of her. the other 3 are just as wooly and dont even have a rug on let alone a HW. She is a wooly bear, but she is 35 and lost alot of weight last winter despite living in. She has regained the weight and adding slowly, gets fed almost every day, and they have copious amounts of hay! Believe me i know coz i have to lug it around haha! Im thinking tomorrow, louse powder her, properly, and MW rug, bathe the itchy bits again so they arent so sore.
With lice would you expect the lice to be more entirely over the body itchy, as opposed to specific areas? I suppose the armpits area is going to be one of the warmest thus, possibly getting itchy if too hot? Also thats the kind of area she gets she sweatiest when she gets sweaty. (isnt sweaty in current rug tho, just pretty warm inside rug)

It could be lots of things but at least you can rule out heat to start with. Frontline is the best treatment for lice (just not licensed for equines), I bought a large spray bottle from my vet a few years ago when my shetland had lice (I also own cats so used the rest up that way!)

Not sure it's the right time of year for lice is it? My little companion pony Dewi was very itchy about a month ago - he was biting the insides of his hind legs and rubbing his neck a lot & it was causing little scabby areas. In the end I got the vet out as it just wasn't clearing up and the vet gave him a Dectomax jab for mites - gave Stella one too seeing as she has feathery legs so could well have passed mites on to Dewi. The vet wasn't certain it was mites, but I have to say that since the jab he isn't itching like mad any more. Dewi's a little Section A with a very thick winter coat, so if it was mites, it seemed that they were happy living on his body - rather than on feathery legs like they usually do. Hope Toffee stops itching soon

L.M i think it might actually be from being too hot now. Think my ideas of being warm and hers are very different. Going to rug her a bit less and keep bathing the sore bits and see if i can brush any critters out to see if there are actually any there. Got rid of her bib today and tucked her neck bit in and wi down grade to mw tomorrow. Why is it they only seem to make the rub bibs in sweaty material and not just breathable cotton?!

Kanga ive got some more insecticidal shampoo stuff think its the same sort of thing if not the same as the one you mentioned to give itchy bits a wash and wash the brushes etc, will do the brushes good even if they are just oily and dusty and not infested with crawlies.
