Hi I have had haflingers for about 7/8 years but this year his amigo rug has really rubbed him. Has anyone got a haflinger and found anything that works for these chunky chaps? I know he would be alright without a rug but they don't have much shelter and it has been so cold

Thankyou I will try a weatherbeeta as I havent tried one on him yet - I think the problem is that he has been lame and is carrying too much weight!! He is just so wide - I should have clipped him as that always helps his weight as well as the rugs fitting better!

I have a Fjord and the best fitting rugs I have found for him are Mark Todd or a JHL, he is very wide and everything else I have tried is too tight on the shoulders and withers plus too long in the neck cover, I find separate necks best as you can adjust them to fit a bit better than fixed. Mark Todd do one with just 150grams of filling - perfect for him as even with a trace clip he does not need a thick rug but this year has been really cold. Happy shopping.

I have a very hefty Fell pony and although he is 14.1 I put him in a 6' premier equine rug. They are fantastic quality. He goes through rugs like you wouldn't believe, but the prem equine one I bought him is fantastic. They are a very high spec and don't rub him or rip easily. I also have our ISH in one too.

He does have a premier equine rug but even that is a bit tight this year. Having said that it fits my haffie mare like a glove. I have just undone the top clip on his amigo this morning which seems much better. I might try a chest expanded altho not that convinced. Any more ideas gratefully received

My 14h Fjord takes a 6'3 rug! The Mark Todd rug has lots of adjustment across the front, he also has a Shires rug that is quite generous - both fit him very well.
I have a horse-ware rug that was my TB's - he can wear it when the other rugs are wet but it cuts into his withers and is a bit tight on the shoulders so I tend not to use it unless I have too.

I have a GFS LW for my icelandic who is a chunky chap and that fits him well. It only has 100g filing and is all he needs when the weather is foul.
