Thanks for posting this, Gordo. I too would be very interested to know what others think. Sounds too good to be true.... maybe they won the lottery!

I'm so cynical. I would think they will buy cheap as some owners are desperate at the moment and sell on at a later date.
MTA especially as it says in the advert she'll take older horses aswell.

In the first part of the advert he says he is buying youngsters to bring on. I think this is a perfectly reasonably thing to do, he has masses of land, has bred horses before so he would be cutting out the costly, time consuming breeding of a foal. If he buys yearlings or any youngstock he can run them on until they are 3/4 years ready to be broken to ride. However he then says at the end he will consider taking older horses as well, this makes it confusing ?? Maybe he hopes the horse market will pick up and he can sell for a profit.

Well my field owner bought 7 yearlings/foals from the sales, as she has lots of land with few horses, get them handled and possibly rehome most of them when the 'work' is done, for not a great deal of money, so i guess its possible, but then i suppose why dont they just get them from sales?

Sounds like hes trying to set up dealing in the cheapest way possible to me. He wants to buy private so he has full history on the horse he's selling and you don't always get that from sales. So has a better chance of getting a better price. I think he maybe considering older horses so long as there not lame, ill or insane to sell on!

I hate to be cynical but the general rule is 'if it sound too good to be true that's because it isn't true!!'
Sorry, but this sounds too good to be true - but I would dearly love to be proved wrong

Ah i see what you mean about private buyers Chestnutmare, wasnt something i had thought off. Its sad that we are all led to think the worst in people, but i guess humans only have themselves to blame
