Hi Barbararob, I have been playing around with girths and my latest one is a stubben cord girth after others on here recommended it and so far so good He only does it on rare occasions though so time will tell. Gazelle (and lots of other deer) do it as a show to potential predators that they are strong and powerful - basically to say if you're going to try chasing one of us, go for one of them who aren't so strong and fit Classic demonstration of survival of the fittest! I'm not sure if some also do it as a show to potential mates for the same reason.

I used a wide surcingle to desensitize Bracken to the girth. Wearing it loose for increasingly long periods then gradually tightened it over weeks. This worked very well.
