Does anyone use them? What do they think?
I have ordered a couple for one pony on my yard, he is a liveries but she is struggling big time at the moment and massively cut the amount of hard feed he is getting and topping him up with extra hay, although he is holding weight he has started chewing wood, vet thinks he is missing something that was in his feed and recommended red rockies as a cheap subsitute, however can donkeys have them as the pony grazes in same field as my donkeys and I don't want to cause them any harm by trying to help my livery out?
Thanks

I use rockies Gus loves them I would Imagine donkeys can have them u just need to keep them away from sheep as they contain copper. Cant the pony just have a balancer? If he is holding his weight but is missing something a balancer will make the most of what he is getting and you wont need to feed too much. I would still go for a lick tho all my animals always have access to a salt and mineral lick of some sort even my bunnies and chinchilla love to have one at hand? eh... paw

Yes, we use the High Mag in spring as we believe, but do not know for certain that Magnesium can help prevent Lami. We use the Red Blocks (Not the red box) for the rest of the year. All the horses seem to like them. We know our pasture is short of some of the minerals including Magnesium. Since the anti pollution laws came in and Power Stations had to have "Scrubbers" fitted to remove sulphur, all the pastures in Britain are short on Sulphur and it is an essential element to all livestock.

I use Red Rockies, they are never without one and when a new pony comes it always demolishes one straight away then settles down and uses it regularly as a lick. I just have them in the mangers in the stables so they always take a little bit with the feed. Despite always having one of these to lick at and having Baileys Stud Balancer on a daily basis Sylvie always chewed wood, none of the others did it but she did. I put her on seaweed as well and within two weeks she had stopped and has never touched the wood since. I would get a seaweed supplement as well, it is very economical to use.

I have always used the field ones and the stable ones. The horses love them and use them when they need them. It is interesting that they still use them even when they have vit / min supplements in their feed They do know best I think
