Sorry to break anyones hearts about 'mustangs', but the three horses used in the movie as Hidalgo were all registered Paints. There are no mustangs over here that are remotely that well built. One of my friends works in horse movies and he was in this one. Its a great movie though! Watched in the other night while trying to waddle my fat self on the treadmill.

That's right, shatter our dreams from across the pond, why don't you?! You're just jealous of all our snow here at the moment I expect ;-) Love the pics on the last page, of the herd in Devon.

Oh, is there a horse in that? Too busy looking at the fabulous VM to notice. VM's OK, but it's Omar Sharif for me! Blazesmum - yes I also saw that stuff about Viggo and the horses in LOTR. Very commendable -*but* - Viggo says he knew nothing about the book LOTR when he was offered the part - how could he??

Really? That's surprising! Not like Christopher Lee then! Apparently he reads it once a year!

Christopher Lee had apparently MET J.R.R Tolkien once... I can claim JRRT as a great uncle by marriage - but I never met him. My aunt married JRRT's nephew, Gabriel, second time around for both of them and about 10 years after JRRT died.

Viggo Mortensen is fab with horses, too. Anybody see LOTR (making of) when they showed him spending hrs working with 'his' horse and helping at the stables? Yes, I heard he also bought one of the horses that played Hidalgo for himself.

LOL, sorry... I don't mean to be a funkiller! Some pretty good looking Paints they used in the movie, though! The movie wrangler I know said Viggo Mortensen was a good, straight up guy... not lile most of the Hollywood types. Was down chatting with the cowboys all through the shooting in Morocco.
