I am doing all the mucking out at our yard at the moment (don't ask ) and normally it is one load per stable. Today, it was 3 loads from one, two from two others, and one from the remaining 3 stables. Mucky mucky sods!! I do a full muck out every day, but they still get so disgusting!! I take heart that Jos is a fairly clean boy, only half to one load a day. I much prefer shavings beds to straw though!! Moan over ;D

i dont have that problem, but did when we have constant down pours of rain, even when id finished skipping out at 10.45 pm each night the 8 stables were just a mess, im a bit anal about beds and feet, now the snow has gone in a matter of 24 hours ill have muddy horses agian, at least when we have snow i know ive got clean horses and there rugs stay clean , im expecting 8 trollops trudging down tommorow and im not looking forward to it, the snow has just left everything squidgy

We are semi-deep littering this winter. Shavings are £7 a bale for a bag of dust or £9 a bale for decent shavings, and with 4 in from about 4pm til 8am we just couldn't afford it, I was putting in a bale every 2 or 3 days in Max and every 5 days in Casper!
So now we're on wood pellets and a deep straw bed, just take the poo out every day and any wet patches of straw that appear. Today we did the 'big' muck out, took about 8 barrows out of Max and 5 out of Casper, that has been in for 3 weeks so not too bad considering they've been in more since the snow!!
