As far as I could see there are only two in Scotland and neither near me but just thought I would ask.

If you are trying to reduce travel costs, speak to the RAs and ask if they are coming to your area or passing through, and whether they would split the travel cost. Or see if you can get one to come and do a half or full day demo/workshop at your yard and charge spectators and participants.

Thanks Hannah thats great idea- I'll need to speak to my friend who owns the yard and see if she would be interested in having a demo and then go from there.

Give Steve Thompson a call, he came out to us the other day (luckily he is fairly close to us), but he is a very accomodating chap and he will do his best to help you. He is based in Dunfermline.

I have asked him to go over some basic groundwork with my yearling Megan and show me how to use my Dually. I also want to work on picking her feet up. And generally showing me how to be more confident around her. My friends mare has some manner issues and can be quite bargy and at times can challenge you in an agressive manner so these are the issuses she would like to work on.

Hi folks- we are not having a demo I haven't asked Steve how much that would cost but I imagine quite expensive and we would not be able to get enough folk so we have room for 1 more horse to come over to the yard- possibly two - but would need to speak to Steve to ensure he would be able to do 4.

I'm sorry - happy as I would be to chip in order to learn from watching Steve work, at the moment I know what I ought to be doing to work with mine - and my neighbour would need to see an RA work to realise the quality of work they do in order to trust them enough to work with her youngster.

Hello, I grew up in Ayr and go back from time to time to visit my parents. I hope you will be able to get Steve in but if not let me know. When I first qualified I did some Monty/dressage appointments at a centre near Glasgow - can't remember the name.
Btw I am not an RA but qualified in 2003, and am not an RA for any bad reason (!), just never got around to submitting case studies as I have more clients as I can fit in anyway. But always happy to help especially where people are a long way from qualified help, and if I'm in the area to see family anyway.

Thanks Annabelle- I wasn't able to get Steve- it was just working out too expensive for me on my own and couldn't justify the cost as there's nothing "wrong" with Megan. I just wanted some help teaching me using my Dually and would like to do a join up with her. I successfully did two join ups, one with my sec A and one with my friend's horse. But I haven't worked with megan much in the arena yet as she's only 18 months and didn't want to send her away etc like I did with the other horses as I thought I might confuse her. If you let me know when you're next in the area and your charges- that would be great.

OK I will do lroy. Megan is maybe a bit young yet but you can get a similar effect without too much running around, just asking her to move away and come to you.
The other thing you could do is send a video of you doing some stuff with Megan and get some feedback and exercises to practise, then at least you can be learning and progressing even though you're not near an RA. Have a look at the site below for details.
Hope to see you up there sometime soon. Where are you based?
