Hi All
Having shared horses most of my life at the age of 34 I have found myself an unintentional horse owner. I have been sharing a 34 year old apaloosa x tb (retired 2 years ago) for 6 years now but I was aware of a little welsh 2 year old who desperately needed somewhere to go and before I knew it everything was arranged and three months ago I took him home to the same livery where my share horse is.
He is a joy but very daunting as I have never raised a youngster, although experienced with horses- lots of help on hand from a youngster experienced friend and luckily I have lots of time to spend with him.
He is a lovely chestut (with flaxen/black/80's style mane and tail)standing around 13.2hh at the moment so think he will make about 14hh at a push.
This is his seventh home bless him having been through dealers and allsorts before coming to me, he has a few issues (mainly with having his back feet picked up) but is generally a big hearted reliable boy once you have gained his trust. He is settling in a bit now and I am looking forward to slowly bringing him on. We walk out four to five days a week and do a lot of chatting in fields, he is happy to wear tack but just want him to have some growing up time before long lining etc we are in no rush.
Luckily I have a light jockey to help back him (a friend who is a very good rider 33 with the body of a twelve year old life really is funny my first horse and I may be too heavy to ever ride him!)when he is older we will probably start in the May he is 4 if he is ready for it but for now are having lovely wombles around the farm together getting used to things like irrigators and clangy weight bridges.
Looking forward to reading around the forum and meeting everyone
