If you've every considered making a career for yourself working with horses, then this course may be of interest. We are currently accepting applications for the September 2010 intake of the Diploma course in Equine Podiatry. This is a two-year, part-time qualification aimed mainly at those who want to work either full or part time as professional Equine Podiatrists (barefoot trimmers). Working as an EP is a good career (if hard work) with a reasonable earning potential (which is rare in the horse world). Demand for EPs is currently growing rapidly and the existing network of EPs in the UK is struggling to meet it. This is currently the most advanced course in the world in barefoot trimming and covers the subject in great depth. This established course is designed to exceed the new UK National Occupational Standard in Equine Barefoot Care due to be published any day now. Teaching is provided by some of the most experienced and respected professsional EPs in the UK as well as a range of external tutors who are recognised world leaders in their fields. The course can be fitted around a full time job - classroom work is grouped into 3-5 day courses based over weekends so as to minimise the need for taking holiday. There is also a significant home study element and 2nd year students take on their own case studies under the supervision of a mentor. For more details, please see the course web site: www.eptrain.co.uk/

Wow - it looks a fabulous course! Wish I had the time, the money and the stomach for it!
Speaking as an owner, who does maintenance trimming between EP visits, I would be interested in a horse-owners home study course that teaches the basics. My trimmer is fantastic and teaches me every time she visits, but I would like to learn more. Just a thought - I wonder if there are others like me that would like to learn a bit more but don't want to make a job or business of it and just want to be a better informed owner.

I would also love to do an owners course, so that I could do maintenance trims in between my EPA visits. I would love to do the course and do it for a job, but my back couldn't take it unfortuneately
