As some of you already know I lost my beautiful girl to colic this morning. She started with what initially looked like a straight forward impaction yesterday evening and appeared to pick up over night but colicked again this morning and it looks like there was possibly some underlying condition which caused the colic. The vet did everything she could but Saffy failed to respond to treatment and I didn't feel it was fair to put her through surgery and the long recovery process that would follow had it been successful. She was put to sleep at the yard which has been her home for the past nine months and where she has been very happy.

She will have met up with all the Springfield girls and boys who have gone before her, and no doubt will be bossing them around already.
If it helps, I carry a lovely picture in my mind of all our beloved horses nuzzling, playing and grazing in sunny, fly-free pasture, with running water, lots of shady trees and no fences. Saffy will probably be with Lady and Gemma, with my own dear Soups making faces at her from a safe distance. Chewy and Carrie will be on nodding terms with her, and Saf will already have fallen a bit in love with Squirrel, but Nick will definitely have decided he is one of his girls. Cas and Rusty will be a bit stand offish to begin with as they are a happy pair, and cheeky Shadow will already have annoyed her!
They are all in their prime, with shiny eyes and glossy coats, and every time a Springfield horse goes to heaven they will find that happy herd waiting to welcome them. Lisa xx

Hi Emma,
Just wanted to say publicly how sorry I am, she was a beautiful girl. She will be up there in the big meadow munching grass with lots of friends and she will live on in your memories so you will never really be without her.

Oh, Emma, I've only just seen this. So sorry, lovely Saffy. I have photos of her being so good while she had plaiting demonstrated on her at the Boot Camp. Love Kathy
