Talin rolls in the school when I take his rug off, doesn't do it in the snow.
He has a decent winter coat so when it's dry I take his rug off as he's plenty warm enough. I only really rug him as have only had him for 6 weeks and his previous owner rugged him so I feel like I should continue. I want to buy a 'Cool Heat Rug' and just use that next year (google it)

Have to admit I nearly did take rugs off fo a while today. I think it must be annoying for them to have rugs on all the time and they might like a nice scratchy roll. Trouble is when I got to the field it started to blow up a real blizzard so I didn't. Maybe tomorrow - and I'll take some pics. (Although I can't seem to get any to upload these days on photobucket).

I turn mine out for 15mins or so as much as possibble without a rug on (snow or not). He loves it! I know what you mean tho about people frowning on it.

Why would people frown on you letting them roll in the snow naked? Don't they think your horse is sensible enough not to roll in the snow if they don't like it?

People frown on me turning my horse out naked (even if it's only for 15 mins), as if I'm being really cruel on him.

I swapped Bailey's rainsheet over today for a new one as the old one looks like it's no longer completely water repellent. As I rolled the old one back to take it off completely he gave me such a disgusted look that I put the new one on as I rolled the old one back. He was not happy until it was closed at the front again. Considering it's a no fill rainsheet I thought he would have liked to have the sun on his back even for a few minutes, but he had other ideas!

Frank went down for a roll as I was walking them both to the field. It was hilarious, I turned round and he was on the floor. Blue was then trying to eat the trees but had snow falling on him so was playing about. It was a relief to get them out.
They must love their naked rolls, I've not done it but tempted to now
