My friend has a sythetic barefoot cheyanne and the girth straps are really thick and difficult to do up. Is it the same with a leather one?

In a word Yes, they are a bit of a pain, very thick rough leather on one side and webbing on the other.

How difficult would it be to change them?

Yes! It's the one bit of my cheyenne I don't like! The holes aren't even either!! Humane girth recommended on here helped with uneven holes!

Yes I use a humane girth too.
Not sure how easy it would be to get them changed. Will inspect my saddle when I go to the yard tomorrow.
