I have 4 horses and only one bum I work 2.5 days a week and in the season work weekends as a face painter. I can't ride my horses that much. At the moment they are near a friend's place and she does most of the feeding (she has 3 of her own and there is someone else's horse in the herd). I am feeling presured to get rid of them as i am unable to ride that often. I do admit that riding is not for me the be all and end all of owning horses. I like watching them and brushing them, taking them for walks, ground work just generaly messing about. We don't have a menage and sometimes and I nervous when riding out. I wish it wasn't the only option as i like working in a menage. It can be a bit expensive at times to have these animals as large pets (although all 4 I can ride) But Malika is about to wean her 4th foal, Higloo has cardio vascular disease so its only really River and Kym that need working. If I can only ride them once a week each does that really matter.

I doubt it bothers the horses much if you don't ride them very often. If it suits you and them then I wouldn't worry too much about what others say.

I've got 3 and I don't ride any of them, for varying reasons. My 3 are completely happy just living life as a horse.
I think Beauty would like to go out with her field mate when she is ridden. I think she just doesn't like being left behind. If her field mate didn't go out, I don't think she would be bothered.
Don't let anyone tell you that you must ride your horses. I have had years of it from people. I just say that "I'm more into dancing with my horses - we are working on the Tango at the moment". It's true and has the advantage of making people write me off as a tree-hugging weirdo. That way, I don't have to explain myself to people who are never going to understand.
Lots of people just like having horses as pets. I think most horses are very happy with this.

Enjoying the relationship is the most important bit and that you and the horses have like what you're doing. Why not ride out with a horse-less friend or look at sharing if you think they need a bit more exercise?

we have 3, and about another 3 that can ride when ever we want, but there are only 2 of us who ride. but its not the end of the world if they dont get ridden, and they certainly dont mind!! think its good just to have fuss and a groom and not be ridden sometimes, and its turned to all the time at the moment!this weather is no good for riding!

I am always saying to my friends that I don't mind if they ride them (except River). I really don't mind as we are a like minded group and one of my horsey friend's doesn't have her own horse and one's horse is injured at the moment. A while ago I complained that I had no one to play horses with me. Now I am finding it hard to deal with everyones comments. And its not always my fault. My car keeps breaking down, I did my back in, I had pig flu that went to my chest, in summer its 40 degrees and now it -18 degrees.
