Hello,
I hope you are all well and have had a good Christmas!
I am wanting to buy pebbles a new heavy weight turnout rug and I wondered what brand everyone one prefers. I have tried GFS but that moved all over her body and Masta don't fit her that well either so I was thinking of a Rhino Pony Plus. Does anyone have any thoughts please? She usually takes a 5"6 rug and I'm looking to spend no more than £150.00. I have searched ebay but nothing caught my eye.
Many thanks
Sarah

hi sarah
it's really hard to say without seeing pebbles, they come up so differently and different makes suit different builds.
i'd say the Fals and Masta are better for the chunky types, have you looked at the weatherbeetas, they tend to be better for the smaller less chunky types. shires are good as well

My last horse had a Mark Todd heavyweight and it was brilliant, never moved, never rubbed and comes in nice colours I'm also a fan of Robinsons own brand, Requisite for the same reasons and very cheap!

I love Fals and also quite like some of the rambos. Mole Valley Farmers currently have a really good offer on the Fal Cheiftans (these are nice tough turnouts with zip off necks) They are usually well over £100.00 but at the moment you can get the heavyweight for £69.99 inc vat. You could buy two with your budget or get a medium weight too for £64.99.
Hope this helps.

It's really hard as each horse is a different shape (bit like us and buying clothes!) so what works for one won't work for another. Having said that, I have my PBA (though NOT fine!) in either a weatherbeeta or a Horseware Amigo and both work really well, and not too expensive. Mark Todd was another that worked but I found it rubbed her shoulders, whereas neither the Weatherbeeta or the Amigo have done so far.

i've just brought the amigo heavy weight £99 off cybercheckout lovely rug and kept my boy lovely and warm in this horrid weather removable neck to- but neck rug doesn't move or fold and let rain in like some do, really like it

For slimmer horses I totally stand by Weatherbeeta....such good value for money and so durable!
I also like Shires and Mark Todd rugs for the slimmer builds.

My favourite brand is Rambo. The Rambo Wugs fit most of ours really well, with the exception of a couple of the cobbier ones. The Rhino Wugs are a similar shape and cheaper and are good but the Rambos are even better. They never leak and are very robust. They have a clever front clip which is on the diagonal so the rug doesn't restrict them when they graze. They also have 3 belly straps. I thought that was overkill at first but now I like it as it ensures the rug wraps round the belly nicely. Highly recommend them and if you search enough you should be able to get one for less than £150.
I hate the Masta rugs I've got. They are heavy and they slip. They do fit the chunkier types well but they are always wearing them at a jaunty angle!
I've just bought a couple of Shires rugs and two Mark Todd turnouts. They all seem to be good rugs but don't know how well they'll wear compared to the Rambos as I haven't had them long. I've got Rambos that I bought nearly 10 years ago that are still going strong and have never been reproofed.

Hi, I recently bought my finer mare a derby house medium turnout, shes about a 5'8" so i bought her a 5'9". Its very generous, hasn't moved or rubbed her although it has gone from black to mud colour within 2 weeks mainly because she loves a good roll. Here it is and its still in their sale. www.derbyhouse.co.uk/prodshow.asp?id=5402&cat=2&scats=48,86

I'm a big fan of the Horseware Amigo rugs and also like Kingshead. Both pretty bargain basement rugs but Dolly's Amigos are about 4 years old and still in excellent condition and my youngster's worn a Kingshead recently which is a lovely fit, didn't move at all and kept him lovely and snug.

My arab x currently wears a Mark Todd (M/W) and he H/W is a Masta, I found the MT did rub a bit and it has ripped already where as the Masta has lasted years.
