I cant believe he was placed 3rd. If people want to win of course this is what they will all aspire to be like. I also cant believe that because there were several riders doing it nothing was done! They should have all been thrown out!

"You may or may not be aware of the fury of the dressage world at the systematic abuse of horses all in the name of 'sport'. Recently Sweden's Patrik Kittel finished third at a World Cup Qualifier having been filmed in the warm up arena riding a horse in an abusive manner and none of the officials present took any notice. In the video you will see that the horse is extremely overbent . Its head is pulled into its knees with the result that the blood supply is being restricted to its tongue and has actually turned blue. www.youtube.com/user/eponatv#p/uThis rider is trained by one the sports big stars - an Olympic winner who herself has been the subject of riding abuse. How can this continue?. How can this be acceptable practice in this or in fact any discipline?!!! I feel that the FEI, judges and stewards have deeply let down the welfare of competition horses and infact horses and charities that try to help them with abuse all over the world by not only deeming this acceptable riding and training practice, but rewarding it. Outcry against this action is gaining support throughout the horseworld worldwide and there are calls for removal of sponsorship for competition and banning of riders. This is also happening in other horse sports where now huge sums of money are commanded for wining animals often over £1m. I would welcome an investigation by the programme of abuse of this kind, not only in dressage but also in racing (over use of whips, horses remaining in stables for 24/7) and in show jumping (rapping of horses legs i.e. pins in bandages, scalding water poured on legs to make them jump higher and not hit poles) - all this in the name of sport and to win money. What are we teaching the children of tomorrow if we do not stop these acts?" I have sent this to Panorama - fingers crossed

;D The automated reply I received from Panorama wasn't encouraging that mine would even be read but you don't get if you don't try do you.

My sister has had an email from a well known US trainer asking for her support in this Heather so people are acting on spreading the word! I've thought for a while it's time Panorama got involved in horse training in general and have actually drafted three emails to them but never had the guts to send them! Perhaps some of you very competent/knowledgeable writers might think this is a good way to go as well? Mandal, was the US trainer Jane Savoie? She has joined the facebook group I started! Heather

It's great that horsey people in the public eye like Heather are getting involved in this. I really think the key is going to be making the mainstream Your-Horse-reader type person aware of what's happening. If Kelly Marks add her support to the campaign I'm sure Your Horse could be persuaded to publish something.

Is there not another petition site? I just wrote my comment and went to sign, but can't do it unless I pay. I am prepared to pay to get this practice stopped, but not to an organisation that I know nothing of, as even some of those I know about, don't use donations ethically. Just ignore all that - I appear to have signed the donation bit must have been after the petition was accepted. Left this post in case anyone else is nearly as dumb as I was I'm pasting my comment here, so I don't lose it if there's somewhere else to send it - I've already written to the FEI. Placing the horse's head behind the vertical, other than momentarily can never be excused, holding it there is causing serious damage to the horse's skeleton and muscles, not to mention to its mind.
Use of bits which restrict circulation is abuse, using one for so long that the tongue is visibily blue and numb is illegal in most counties as you are not allowed to deliberately cause pain and discomfort to an animal in all civilised ones.
Such physical and psychological torture has no place in sport. An organisation that does not stop it, is saying 'cruelty is a valid means to reach the top in our sport.' Such an organisation is also immoral.

I'm ringing Kelly in the morning, and used to write for YH myself so should be able to drum up some support, at least it would be nice to think so.
