Just had a look at the preview for this month's Horses for Life magazine, some very interesting reading but does anyone know what this is about from page 52-3 and horsesforlife.com/These statements seem to imply Intelligent Horsemanship is pro Rollkur - is there another group going by the name of Intelligent Horsemanship or has there been some mix up? Or did I just misinterpret what was written because it's late and I'm tired and have just spent hours reading through this stuff on my computer?

I cant find it, Emma, which article is it in? I know the Editor so will alert her, if I can pinpoint it. I cant use the flip magazine most of the time as my broadband is so poor it takes a month of sundays to download!

Thanks for the heads up Emma R and Mandal, we are just looking into it. I can say without doubt that Intelligent Horsemanship that is mentioned in that article is not the original IH founded by Kelly Marks. Official statement coming soon. Heather the article is here: horsesforlife.com/content/view/1569/1347/ about half way down.

Someone has just alerted me to this (and thanks for the heads up) - it seems totally bizarre! I must say there seems to have been a whipping up of the 'anti Monty brigade' just recently (and so IH I guess) and it I'm not clear on why - I think the science trials have a lot to do with it - certain people seem to want to 'own' the science side of the horse world - rather than being pleased that IH has worked really hard over the last 10 years to ensure that all our students start to gain a real knowledge of learning theory, behavariourism etc. It's almost like "What right have they?!" "Who do they think they are?!" And of course now that Monty has done a science trial - well - it's sent them into apoplexy! Can you believe there is actually a website that says ways people would like to kill Monty?
I was looking through a Caesar Milan book the other day and I had to laugh when it said "The only thing two dog trainers will agree on is that they don't like another dog trainer'd methods!" This weekend I am teaching full time (8.30 to 5.30) and I'm doing a lot of teaching now up to the 9th December - if anyone would have the chance to find out whether there is seriously a group that hate 'rolkur and IH' and maybe we could approach them to try and stop this 'Monty's all evil and 'insert name' is all perfect' and seriously think of ways we could improve lives for horses through good education.

Just seen it, that is as you say, totally bizarre, Kelly! I will email Nadja King immediately and ask what on earth is going on. If you were pro rollkur, would you have allowed me to post this thread, and others like it? I think not!
Do you think it was because Monty was doing some stuff with AVG at the Global Dressage forum and afterwards it was posted that he praised them both as 'geniuses' at a subsequent lecture demo? I think this might be the root of this.

Can you believe there is actually a website that says ways people would like to kill Monty? Sadly I can Kelly!! Of course they don't want to kill, murderers, child molesters, horse mutilators etc. etc. Says it all to me! Mta... and of course they have nothing in common with Monty or even IH it seems either... there are only differences to 'celebrate'...

horsesforlife.com/content/view/1569/1347/That article's outrageous! If I understand it correctly, it is saying that IH is pro-Rollkur. Surely that's completely wrong?! I would be inclined to write to the publishers and point out that the author has misrepresented the position of IH on the subject of Rollkur to the point of defamation. I'd ask nicely that they remove all reference to IH in the article within 5 working days and print a retraction/correction. If they don't comply, go to their web hosts (looks to be servage.net/) and tell them that you will be persuing legal action for defamation. Web hosts don't like getting involved in defamation arguments and will force the website owners to remove the article or have their entire site shut down.

I have contacted the owner/editor of HFL, Caroline who is a friend, and has actually done a huge amount with the magazine to fight for an end to rollkur. I am surprised that she didnt check that article more closely, as she didnt realise that IH was an actual organisation- Nadja is in Canada- and s asked me for Kelly's email address, to is write to her to apologise.

It's quite clear to me that it's just a simple mistake - as Heather says, the author didn't realise that there was an organisation of that name. There's no need to go in all heavy handed and gung-ho, give them a few days to sort it amicably first.
If you read HFL regularly, you will know that they are committed to the fair treatment and ethical training of horses. So in actual fact, have a lot in common with IH. I'm sure they will be mortified at their mistake.

I'm sure Kelly isn't Jennyb, different associations/meanings like this do happen especially across Countries.

Havent watched the vid, but assume it's Rolkur with so much pressure on the horses tongue that it's causing it to go blue?
Surely this is in the same league as whipping a horse when it wont jump? Whipping excessively is no longer tolerated, sure this shouldnt be either!!
Cruelty in the highest form!

If you read my post, you will see that I suggested initially asking NICELY, but specifying a 5 day period for action - that gives you a reasonable position from which to next approach the web hosts.
It's nice that this can all be sorted out amicably, but if there were not friendships involved, my advice (as a web professional) would have got a result. I was being helpful.
