Did anyone else see the totally fabulous Kauto Star and the brilliant Ruby Walsh this afternoon? Pure magic. What a horse - and what a jockey.
Ruby is surely now on a par with the great John Francome - just love the way he gets a horse in his natural rhythm, never seems to be doing much, always seems to see a good stride to a fence - superb.
And today he won pulling up, stroking his brilliant horse down the neck. The mighty Kauto Star has now won four King George steeplechases in four consecutive years - what a fantastic achievement! Oh, and Paul Nicholls might have a bit to do with it as well..... ;D

Ted Walsh must be bursting with pride... is that his father's name?

Yes, Ted's Ruby's father. Ted Walsh seems like a great chap - I love his way of never using one word when twelve will do....!
These Irish racing families are great. I heard it said once that when a Carberry baby is born, it gets its bottom smacked and then it's sent out on a four year old for a canter round the schooling field....... !!

Couldn't agree more lizpurlo. Ruby is a true horseman (and I just love his smile!). He is just so good at getting a horse to a fence in balance.
Kauto was just awesome, brilliant. How he beat the field of those good horses by MILES. Whether he can beat Denman at Cheltenham - well, we wait in anticipation.

Ooooh, the Gold Cup - what a race that will be. I reckon Ruby will stay on Kauto - though the ride he gave Denman in the Hennessy was magic. The way he kidded him over the first few fences, then got him into a rhythm and enjoying himself - what a joy to watch. Sam Thomas always looked to be rushing Denman out of his stride, somehow.
What a fantastic time it is to be a National Hunt racing fan just now - the Champion Hurdle wide open, some fabulous Irish novice chasers coming through - roll on March!

Yay! Another Somerset winner! A superb horse, a wonderful jockey and a first class trainer in Paul Nicholls who did nearly all his early training in the Somerset yards of Kevin Bishop, John Thorne and Les Kennard as well as the Devon yard of David Barons where he was later assistant trainer. There are some very good trainers of jump horses in the West Country
