Yup, our ride was a fun, safe, plod in the snow, and the only danger was frostbite to our fingers toeses & noses! I now have one of the pics as wallpaper to remind me how cold we were. Always sad when anyone and especially horses, get hurt.

What needless accidents, such a shame . I kinow it's frustrating esspecially if you have had the week off to spend riding during the holiday season. Can't wait for everything to thaw out am getting fed up of all this snow, and they recon mores coming in sunday

I personnally cannot dare ride out. Not in this. Way too slippy. Have not ridden now for 12 days, and have withdrawal symptoms. But i have a very happy alive horse.
Merry christmas everyone!

aw, lovely photos! I have to agree, even my baby is taking a holiday from his ridden work at the moment. it's just not worth the risk of taking him onto the ice rink that our roads have turned into. It's looking like it might warm up enough in the next few days though *fingers crossed* Merry Christmas all, and safe riding in this weather

I attempted a ride yesterday for the first time in two weeks, but turned back after 10 mins. The lane was ok, but the sandy byway was still compacted ice and it wasn't worth the risk, so I gave up and let them plod home. Frustrating isn't the word, but stories like this confirm I did the right thing!

Well I've just back from seeing to my pony, & have a headache. I have to walk the track to the yard because I can't open the barrier to drive there. On my way back to the car, I went flying. Straight onto the back of my head - CRACK!!!

You poor thing. That's awful rj.... extra strength Neurofen and the GP if you have any doubts.
I checked the roads and fell over on my avenue to the blinkin' road! Riding for 20mins in the field instead. First time out in eight days.

Oh rj sounds like a nasty fall. Has your headache subsided? I hope so. The road outside my house is a sheet of glass after the thaw yesterday so I'm going no where! I am glad my main yard is gravel as there are only a couple of icy compacted areas so it's safe! Poo picking is going to be mega when it thaws properly and I can pick all the poos up!!

Mine have not been ridden for ages but we managed to get out for a quick hack this morning but checked the route first in the car to check it was not at all icy - sounds like its -1 again tonight so thats probably it again but would rather have the ponies safe - they can go out as we have used the muck to spread a track from stables into the fields - not pretty but safer.
