My ponies' current insurance policies run out early January 2010 and I've already decided not to renew Dolly's as she's no longer insurable for vets bills (soooooo many exclusions!) and given Kai's done a really great job of not needing the vet in the year I've had him, I'm tempted to cancel his too and put the money saved each month into a savings account.
I still however want them insured for Death and 3rd Party Liability and have run quotes through with SEIB, Petplan and Stoneways and am awaiting a quote from KBIS (my current insurers) for new non-vet bill policies.
Can you recommend any other insurers worth getting quotes from? I want cheap but reliable! Not approaching NFU (previous bad experience and won't use them again) and E&L due to their appalling reputation.
Thanks a lot ;D

Petplan aren't the cheapest, but I would strongly reccomend them.
I recently made a claim, which was rather expensive - settled within three weeks, no problems, plus I can continue to claim for complimentary treatment, which he needs on an on-going basis.
I believe PP also offer a lot of 'extras' that other companies don't.
Beware - E&L exist as other companies, under a different name. I know of someone that got caught out by that - it is reccomended to ask specifically if they related to in any way, E&L.
I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to not insure, my horse went without any vets treatment (bar jabs) for the time I owned him until literally the last eight-six weeks or so, in which he has occured well over £800 of vets bills.

I would steer well clear of Petplan, I have just had to take them to the small claims court to get them to settle my claim. A reliable source within the veterinary industry tells me they are having no end of problems with Petplan Equine at the moment - don't bother!!!

I've paid well over £600 to the insurance company this last year which if it had gone into a savings account would have paid for all Dolly's treatment with money left over...

And KBIS have got it again £7.80 per month to insure both ponies for Death, Theft and Straying and for 3rd Party Liability to £2m. They also agreed that insuring Dolly for vets bills would be a pointless endeavour as she's now excluded for conditions relating to or arising from colic, conditions relating to or arising from sarcoids, conditions relating to or arising from mud fever, conditions relating to or arising from laminitis and conditions relating to or arising from injury or strain to the ligaments or tendons of the legs
