If you didn't know us and pehaps were novice with computers - would this work better do you think? There are few 'novice' computer users whose first introduction to web browsing is 'unsupervised.' Most learn from a relative or teacher, so don't 'over cater' for the novice user, it annoys the other 99.9% What is important for novices is that you are 'consistent' with what they find elsewhere, so links should change the cursor pointer to a hand, which they do and any time text is underlined, it should be a link to somewhere. The latter is something that irritates experienced web users as underlining was the only way you recognised a link in the late eighties and the rule hasn't changed. The new IH website is very clear and simple and easy to navigate. Fewer words is better than too many on a home page. Five times as many people read headlines as the body copy underneath them. In fact, if you are on a home page for the first time, you want a snapshot of what you can find 'inside' and will be glancing around, like a shop window, your glance won't stop long enough to read anything. The words you use there should be measured and powerful. Show, don't tell. Do we really want to know when you founded IH, we want to know what you can do for us, which you tell us straight after that. You have arrived at ( lacks power and doesn't improve on Welcome to) Intelligent Horsemanship! Just click your mouse cursor above any of the highlighted areas of interest and you will find more informationKelly Marks founded Intelligent Horsemanship in 1997 so that horse owners could get practical help at exceptional value , plus be assured that they and their horse would be treated with honesty and respect. ( sounds like an after thought) With her mentor, Monty Roberts, Kelly works to promote s honesty, respectunderstanding and fair treatment of horses through courses , demonstrations and educational materials including DVD sets, books and the Monty Roberts Dually Halter. If you would like help with a horse or would like to improve your skills with horses in a fulfilling and enjoyable way – you have come to the right place! Do come inside and make yourself welcome...I ntelligent H orsemanship - Accessible Affordable Achievable Yes! Power word and emotive. Emotive action words are even better and you put those at the bottom already. Free DVD, Join Here etc. The top three Power Words are YOU, NEW and FREE. You have all three at the action links on the bottom. Good emotive action words are Do You…, How to…, How would…, Proven, Results, Secrets of…. I.H needs changing, (initialisms should have all abbreviations with a full stop (looks old fashioned though) or none of them) but I've already emailed the media exec about that. What's all this about snowed in and doing something useful. I have been enjoying watching the horses munching peacefully in the snow and the robins who joined them. What better use of time is that - off to mop the bathroom floor so I can feel useful.

So if I can already navigate the Homepage successfully, does that constitute definitive proof that I am definately NOT an idiot? Sorry, not helpful. ;D

Ashleigh - of course not you're officially Intelligent or you wouldn't be here! Catrin - you're fantastic. It's amazing isn't it once something is pointed out it's so obvious?! However we do need some of the key words to help us be found on the search engines plus I'm guessing most people find us because they own a Welsh Section D they have a problem with a horse so we need to make it obvious they've come to the right place. Media executive suggested a big Horse Help Here button but as Media executive now gone off for 2 weeks that won't be done for some time.

... we do need some of the key words to help us be found on the search engines … You need more words in your keyword META tag, that's what the search engines look in. I am ignoring the section D slight Never ignore a section D, nor an A, B or C for that matter. They are waiting to take over as soon as you do. I suspect that they even have inter-galactic aspirations.

Hi,
The one thing that particularly stands out for me when I use this website is the search engine. It doesn't ever seem to pick up on things i'm trying to find - i'm pretty sure it's not my lack of understanding or using the right words. Not sure if the search engine could be improved? I've put the exact words in for a thread title and it doesn't always find it even though it's a recent thread. Merry Christmas :-)
