The Oxfordshire Branch of the British Horse Society is holding its annual Nettlebed Estate fun ride on Sunday May 17th. The ride is over ten miles of glorious parkland with optional fun jumps, rosettes, refreshments and all to raise money for the BHS equestrian access campaign. Entry forms and details are from lindadbella@aol.com or 01993704734, or www.bhssouth.org.uk Fun rides are really popular as they offer wonderful off-road riding, joining up the fragmented bridleway network. The BHS campaigns for better and safer equestrian access and the money raised will help support this essential work, including coastal access, which so far is just planned for walkers. The BHS relies heavily on local volunteers. Troth Wells is the access officer for the Oxfordshire area and wants everyone to wear high visibility clothing when riding on the roads. Janice Bridger is access officer for the whole of the south and she took part in the Nettlebed ride last year with her horse Conker. "This was a fantastic ride which was easy to follow and clearly marked. There were numerous chances to canter and jump and although there were plenty of riders it was not crowded. I particularly enjoyed riding some of the oldest rights of way in the area, such as English Lane, while thinking about all those hooves that had ridden this ancient lane in the past". So sign up for the Nettlebed Fun Ride and help the invaluable work of the BHS Access campaign.
