I'm no expert Melanie but it looks like a really good first attempt to me. It's a bit difficult to see as the video is shot from a distance but it looks to me as if your position is good with a nice stable lower leg. Wish I was brave enough to do the same! ;D

You look nice and togethe which is good, he appears to trust you If you pause over the rustic x pole - I found this one best as it is side on! You can see your lower leg has slipped back, so you are slightly unbalanced and look like you are therefore leaning on his neck with your hands. Stealing a thought from jennyb who I think stole it from somewhere else.... Imagine you are sitting on a seat, when someone holds out some chocolate for you. You don't want to lose your seat, and you know if you stand up someone will steal it! So you keep your bum just hovering over the seat, lean forward from the hips, and move your hands forward to get your chocolates. WOrk with out stirrups will help the lower leg, as will practising your jumping position in walk trot and canter round the school. Or out hacking.

Thanks We went for a jumping lesson tonight, and first thing I got told off for was my leg being too far back! More Dressage Queen type instructor likes my position so guess I'm doing the trying to ride like a DQ with jumps in the way thing again I like the chocolate thing, mmmm chocolate ;D
