Hello, a friend of mine (Aureesa, my incredibly helpful neighbour and friend!) directed me to this site and very kindly passed on all the Kelly Marks books which I am soaking up on a nightly basis! I have just purchased my very first horse, after a lifetime of begging parents, not having the cash or the time, I have finally done it! Got a new cottage, enough land to have my new best friend on my doorstep and the time to lavish all the love I have been saving up for the last 29 years! I am a bit of a nervous wreck as I haven't regularly ridden for at least 15 years but I am praying if I stick at it and ride out the nerves, literally, I should make it out the other side confident and enjoying it all again! Although, the first time I got on my new 17.1hh gorgeous TB X Appaloosa, my boyfriend said he had never seen me grin so widely! So fantastic to find a site so full of kind and positive ways to improve, have fun with your horse and improve your confidence! So... hi all

Hi Freda and welcome to the DG. There's some great people on here and many of us are working on our confidence. The Perfect Confidence is a great section on the DG to find support, hints, tips, ideas etc and where you can share the ups and downs of the journey.
Your horse sounds gorgeous! I'll be the first of many to say please post some photos LOL

His beautiful head, and my little head ducking under him... I am 5ft 10" but I look tiny next to him! I hope these work! Don't have many yet

Hi and welcome. I'm still grinning after 2 and half years of having first horse. It's worth every muddy field and howling gale! Lots of people will be very envious of you having him on your own land just outside your door. Enjoy every minute - he looks fab (at 5'3 I'd struggle to get on him) and congrats on posting pics so quickly - I still haven't managed to work it out despite several kind people advising me.

Hi Freda, exciting isn't it when you get your own. I've had my lad for five years and still look at him every day and say "wow he's mine " Very friendly and helpful bunch this lot

Hi Freda and welcome, I'm a first time horse owner too, (in my 40's!) I've had him for about 18 months or so now and can't imagine ever going back to life without a horse :0) I'm also relatively new on here but find lots of advice and interesting chat. Your horse looks absolutely beautiful and I second what Mojo said about posting pics - I haven't worked it out yet either!!

What a handsome boy he is, lovely markings, welcome to the DG and good luck with him. I have owned Reggie for 3 years next week - you never ever stop smiling!

Thank you all so much for the welcome! Well actually my boy is staying with some friends at the moment as I move into my new house at the end of the month. Once I get the fences tidied and stables sorted he will be moving to his new home, I can't wait! I must say though it has been so helpful starting with him at my friends stables, they have been so supportive and helped me get through so many fears in the first week alone! I don't have a friend for his new home yet, although on the lookout for a gelding companion - he loves the ladies a little TOO much

Hi and welcome to the forum. Glad you've finally managed to get your first horse. I've owned horses for 22 years and still have a grin on my face when i see my horses ;D. I also have my horses at home, it is so much easier than having to go out to a livery yard everyday! Your boy looks lovely and very big

I thought I should update these pictures a little... Jumping 3ft for the first time in May! Just before the awful winter, October last year... My boys settled in our new home, May 2009 - Cougar's beautiful ex racehorse companion Prince, aged 6...
