Just looking through the riding diary and looking forward to the spring rides. I looked at the Windsor sponsored ride schedule and they are asking for £20 entrance fee plus minimum sponsorship of at least £50, which they are calculating at £2.50 per jump. I always pay my own sponsorship as I do quite a few rides each year and wouldn't have many people to ask for sponsorship. So I would have to pay £70. Pricey huh ? Anyone going ? I did go to watch once and seemed like a good day out.

all depends if you want to jump or do you just want to ride around Windsor Great Park.
A lot of the sponsored rides are now asking for money up front and a minimum amount.
Come and do some pleasure rides (Endurance)

Hi Pauline, Yes a pleasure ride would be a great idea. My friend and I are looking to do a couple of non competitive, scenic type rides on our young horses. What is coming up that you would recommend ? We are Hants/Berks/Surrey borders.

Thanks Pauline , The New Forest sounds like a great ride but I am too much of a wuss to drive my lorry on the motorway ! The poor horses would be travelling for hours with me trying to drive that far ! Anything nearer ?

Nothing closer sorry. There is one at the end of the season (September)
It is easy to drive on the motorway much better for the horses.
Where do you live.

I wont even drive a car on the motorway, once nearly lost control of a landrover on a motorway which really scared me, they are dreadful to drive anywhere! So I guess I now have a phobia of motorways, I was once a sales rep and drove the motorways all day ! There are some good pleasure rides in Meon Valley and Basingstoke and beyond, so will look out for schedules for those. My friend keeps her horse in Yateley and I am just outside Eversley.

Hi Gingermum
You've just missed the Highclere ride (which was last Sunday), Nr Newbury.
I just about got there after my transport had to out, and I found myself driving there in a borrowed Range Rover with a borrowed trailer and a horse that also can't claim to be mine... I'd never driven with a trailer... !!! It was a challenge, but fun. Being a seasoned biker - I've never driven soooo slowly up the A339 Basingstoke to Newbury road.
But there is another fun ride in July I think, at Kingsclere and another at Highclere in August. They are organised by the Vine & Craven Hunt. Entry is about £15. Sorry I am being a little vague here...
BTW - I'm booked to go to Windsor.

My daughter & I had a brilliant ride in West Wycombe Park yesterday organised by the Chiltern & Thames Connemara Group. Not much use for this year I know, but put it in your diary for next year. 10 miles, no jumping (well my daughter found 3!) and a fun river crossing - all for £15. We'll definintely go again next year. Also on the board is the BHS Nettlebed ride 17th May , £17 I think. Hoping to go to that .
