My beloved 32yr old mare developed pressure sores from her bioflow boots when I really STUPIDLY left them on for a couple of days when I was expecting my baby at the end of november. when i took them off she had a couple of small sores on each leg where they had rubbed. ( feel so guilty). i cleaned them up and left them open and they seemed to heal up. the scabs since them keep cracking open and bleeding and this morning, thinking they had def healed up this time. one leg is bleeding agian. i have cleaned it up and put some NAF mud guard cream on it as I pressume that I need to keep it moist while it heals to stop this happening again. I know old horses take longer to heal and their skin is more likely to suffer from these type of injuries but is there anything else I can do. She had a blood test for cushings in the spring and although -ve they were on the higher end of so the vet advised toput her on low dose of pergolide which she is on 1/2 tablet daily since. Any other ideas?? thanks.

have you tried using intrasite gel on them? I may have spelt that wrong sorry - you should be able to purchase it from your vet and it helps the wounds heal whilst keeping them moist but free from bacteria etc - really good stuff!!!
