Much preferrable to the gales and rain with associated mud. Bailey hates that and gets miserable and grumpy. Despite the cold he is also only in a rainsheet with no fill and it amazes me how snuggy warm he is. He would be far too hot in anything warmer. I did take it off in the sun the other day thinking that he would like a roll, only to have a disgusted horse trying to get me to put it straight back on again. So it must make some difference even if it does flatten his coat. He has his full winter coat but it is very fine. He's also losing his summer podge so hopefully we'll have a nice sleek Bailey again come spring. This weather is also showing up the ragwort rosettes in the grass - I have some digging to do!

It is so much better than it being wet but boy was it chilly today. Even the menage was pretty hard so only managed a 40 min walk session with a couple of gentle jogs. There was nothing I could do to stop her bombing across the field to me though when I went to bring her in, which was a bit worrying!

Much better than rain, the only thing is that as the ground was so muddy before this started, we have too many ruts and divots holes for my liking. My daughters pony was rather sore in her shoulder yesterday which I think must be due to larking about on the frozen ground. I have even moved everybody to fields that are nomally only used in summer as they are less rutty, but to no avail. Still I would rather risk the ruts than keeping them all in and sending them mad! At least our manege is still OK to ride on as long as no one else damages themselves.
The water pipes are not defrosting properly either, but since it was -7 here yesterday morning I suppose it is no surprise!
