Ok.. this may seem totally crazy especially as it is still below freezing here and the hosepipe is useless as it has been frozen for days but when was the last time we had any rain in the south east? There is nothing forecasted for the next ten days other than a light shower of snow tomorrow morning. The fields are muddy but only by a couple of inches which is a miracle at this time of the year and I can only remember one really wet day in the last 2 months.

Err it was only a few weeks ago that we had days of rain on and off, more on than off...... my fields got trashed then and are now solid rutts so i don't want any rain thanks but a little thawing wouldn't go amiss.....

I'm quite happy with it to stay just as it is thanks!
Where we had almost constant rain for weeks in the autumn, my shetland mares have totally trashed their usual winter field. As it's frozen, I've been able to put them out in one of the summer fields (which is usually too wet). This is saving me endless work & money, as I'm not having to hay them anymore. They are happier too! So the longer this stays, the better, as far as I'm concerned. Plus, generally colder winters mean warmer summers. And also less flies & lurgies. So lets keep it cold a while longer!

I'm quite happy with it too! We had soooo much rain here beginning of Dec, the fields are so muddy, so at least when the ground is frozxen they can#t get worse!

It does feel slightly odd doesn't it? I even contemplated letting my daughter ride in one of the paddocks the other day as the ground conditions were perfect!

I love it!!!! I will be ready for stringing myself up when it rains and I watch my fields turn into quagmires. At the moment I can shove my barrow around, poo picking and dispensing haylage (different barrows!) with impunity. I might even get around to scraping the mud off a few of the norses when I have finished my night shifts - might even get on one!!!!!!!!! I am hoping it stays like this until March and then just showers gently at night : )
