......my old instructor has lost interest in horses!!! She was brilliant and so ahead of her time and together we investigated 'alternative' and 'classical' ways over 10 years ago. She did join up and loading (Monty devotee) and Heather wanted her to become one of her instructors. She found this way naturally and worked on her own principles over 20 years ago fighting everyone in the establishment.
At times it was a nightmare for her - we live in a less than enlightened area with tons of competative riders who scorned her as her results were not fast enough and how dare she tell them to turn the horse out for a month or two to get their heads and bodies back in gear when there are so many competitions, points to be won etc!!
She had done all the BHS exams to highest levels but tunred her back on them preferring to 'cherry pick' from the finest for her own methods. I loved her but she couldn't make it pay so now has given up totally - broke and demoralised and now even more so as people who scorned her have 'discovered classical riding' and talk down to her as if she had never heard of it. I got it too from friends who mocked my views and now act rather as 'born again' with their zeal for decent saddles ( I started exploring these 10 years ago) and how to use their seat - even Monty's handling skills are now being used.
I know its great to see it but so sad to think we have lost her and I do get fed up when they preach to me as if I am some sort of idiot that knows nothing - especially when all those years ago my ideas were dismissed as rubbish. Has any one else experienced this??
