I have known this happen. Sadly some horses are sold to inexperienced owners while still in this state. The owners think they have a complete brain dead plod.
When they flip, they flip.
Tammy 86, once you have worked with one of these poor horses it makes you approach the situation with a very different attitude, I know I do! I have also had your problem in convincing others that I really do mean they are sensetive and nervous, not just bad mannered.
The lady farrier who taught me used to shoe him for me, thank the Almighty, she too was sensetive and willing to listen to the horse. When he asked for his foot back please, she let him have it back, then picked it up again. One male farrier insisted that he kept his foot in place, and my poor boy suffered meltdown.
