Oh my god I hurt all over.
I took Snip out for a hack this afternoon as I finished work at 12, so thought I'd take advantage of a rare bit of daylight.
Was having a lovely plod, just walk, everywhere a bit slippy for a canter, nice a relaxed, reins on the buckle, a happy horse, sun was out, barely any wind, perfection. Got approx half way round Snip's favourite hack and he caught sight of a new bird scarer device, 2 big windmill propellers made out of shiny metal to reflect the sun.
Snip panicked at the sight of it and before I knew what was happening he'd thrown his head up and cracked me across the face....all I remember is slumping forward feeling a bit dizzy and watvhing the ground go by fast as he was bolting back the way we had come, bucking...I hadn't even had a chance to sit up or anything when he swerved sharply left through the gap in the hedge we'd come through, catvhing me in the trees and knocking me off sideways.
Snip then legged it out of sight.
Thank god for mobile phones, I called a girl who had been at the yard when I set off and gave her a panicked garbled message to head Snip off before he could get to the road...
They got him before he got to the road thank god, once I got that phone call I stopped running and the adreniline started to slow down a bit, and then things started to hurt!
Snip is fine, not a scratch, I've not come off so well but I'll live....got a headache, a sore face, neck, shoulder, back, knee and ribs...but I did get back on him in the school when I finally got back to the yard!
Not the Christmas Eve ride I'd planned.

Oh MY God you are so lucky it wasnt worse.. and so poor you.. I can suggest arnica to aid the bruising and it will help plus some anti-inflamatories.. so pleased you got Snip caught .. What shame to have such an incident on what should have been a lovely happy hack.
Hope you recover soon.. and not to battered and bruised.
Merry Christmas.. xs&f

Oh poo hun You will be sore for a few days .... Get yourself in a nice hot bath to bring some of the bruising out and relax those muscles. Its just the most awful feeling when you see them disappearing out of sight, i had it yesterday with Storm, i just had to stand and watch as he legged it up the stubble field Least Snip is ok, it`d have been a much sadder christmas day had he of been hurt .... Treat yourself gently for the next few days x

I was so worried, I've never come off and not been able to hang on on a hack before, it was only the hit on the head that put me off my stride and I may not even have come off if it wasn't for that. But I was so worried as he's never had to negotiate things on his own, i saw him jump 2 ditches in the distance as he got himself lost, poor boy. My friend said when she caught him he was beside himself with fear.
Such a shame that it happened on one of his good behaviour days too, he was so happy and relaxed.
I've had a hot bath and some Arnica, no lasting damage but I'm not feeling at my best! Glass of Baileys is helping though!

... welcome to a club you didn't want to join ..... ... it is soooooooo scary when this happens , like you found out it is more the worry of what's happening to horse . Had it happen on a hack and on an endurance ride and until horse is safe it is a nightmare. Mobile Phones ( and on the endurance ride twas radios) are a godsend aren't they, would never like to be out without one. It can happen to anyone anytime no matter how "bombproof" the horse ..... and whether horse is "on the aids" or "on the buckle" ..... when something that scary / new happens. Soooo glad Snip ended up safe at home and and uninjured ... and you too are not seriously injured. Baileys mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I'm so glad you're not too badly hurt, and well done for carrying a phone. Clever, clever girl. Could have happened to anyone. What an experience.

Oh poor Trouble. Exactly the same happened to my OH a couple of years ago - bird scarer, head up, smack, spin, run, OH out the back door. Do be careful of your back for a while - the osteopath described it as having a shock wave going down your back from the head bang, followed by another one going up from the fall, and they meet in the middle. So the one bit you don't think you hit also really hurts. Take care. And along with Arnica, Syndol or the Boots equivalent - Boots Tension Headace pills might help as they also have a muscle relaxant.

Hey all...thanks! I'm fine now, my knee has swollen a bit and I feel like I've bruised my ribs....a bit stiff still but not too painful.
Going to give him a really good schooling session for the next couple of days, take us back into our comfort zone, then take it from there.
