Just a quick question for you knowledgable peeps... Can you use a standard Myler comfort snaffle on your horse whilst competing in dressage? Not serious stuff, just a little unaff. ?? There's one I could buy, horse goes very well in it, looks like this one but it has the hooks for the cheek pieces and reins to attach to. Any ideas? Don't really want to have it if I can't compete in it Thanks!

No you can't compete in the ones with the hooks for reins and cheekpieces, even unaff stuff! Silly rule as your allowed a hanging cheek snaffle which would have a similar action.

hmm, didn't think so. Said horse likes the mouthpiece, if you can get them with normal rings would that be useable? Have found fascinating reading here www.sustainabledressage.com/tack/bridle.phpthough I'd post in case anyone else was interested - I think I'll just have to learn to ride without a bridle at all!!

Yep you can use them with the normal ring. If you go to the British dressage website you might find a list of "legal" bits there.

I use the MB02 snaffle without hooks and it is fine. You aren't allowed the hooks on that bit for dressage but I have it without and its great ;D

I was told by saddler when looking at trying to get a dressage legal myler if you use the comfort snaffle without the hooks but the fulmer cheeks and fulmer loops you will get a similar action. I never tried this so can't say whether it did or not, maybe someone with more experience with bitting would be able to answer this.

You can use that mouthpiece, you will just need some dressage legal sides

Its because the reins are fixed onto the reins. With something like the Loose Ring the reins arent fixed so you can use them for Dressage... Although if you are going to Give It A Go Dressage they dont usually kick you out for the wrong equipment. They usually allow most bits...

Make sure the mouthpiece doesn't have the copper inserts, as "two-tone" metals are not allowed. The codes on the dressage legal Myler bits end in "DL" if that's any help?

To be correct, you cannot use a bit with hooks/slots for dressage whether you are using the hooks/slots or not.
The MB02 mouth piece is dressage legal with plain eggbutt cheeks, full cheeks, hanging cheeks or loose rings.
A full cheek used with fulmer keepers has a similar effect as a hanging cheek.
Companies that sell Myler bits often use their own codes, so not all dressage legal Mylers end with DL
