How about cheapest place for supplements. I get cortaflex 4 month supply for £52 inc free postage from www.feedem.co.uk and also get formula for feet in 20kg sack on ebay for £77 inc postage. Does anybody get these cheaper?

I also make my own training aids.. LIke the pessoa.. I have one very similar... I borrowed a friends ( she knew why) and then I made one everso like it.. and I have used it for a few years, with a 2 year break when I forgot about it. Out it came last week..
Cost me abiut 20.00 in total compared to the real one of about 80.00 and other similar ones on Ebay for 50.00
I make my own long ropes as well, get the rope from marine shops and the clips.. and learnt to whip ends..
Its ok Kelly I havent worked out how to make my own version of training Monty headcollar!!!

Buy everything out of season where possible eg - fly rugs at end of summer, turnouts in spring. Your horse won't mind if it's last years colours! With recession upon us there are some great bargains to be had as the retailers are feeling the pinch too

Dont buy stable rugs or sell the ones you have. I dont change rugs and havent done for years. They stay on when brought into stable of an evening. If it is wet they dry on the horse. They remain in warm rug not changing to damp and old ones. Come morning you arnt stripping them all off and them getting cold again to then put on another cold damp rug often still not dry from day before. It is quicker to turn out come morning. All the modern rugs are breathable. When they come in of an evening you can undo and check not rubbing and redo up with chilling them.
The sell the excess stable rugs or give to charity.
I have got June to do this with all the polo horses and many of fellow liveries. They are all amazed they didnt think of this before. If you are in a yard that you pay for T/O and B/I and they charge for rug change you get to save money as well.

Or, even cheaper, buy a big bag of Badminton High fibre nuggets for around £8. 1 bag will last for months and the horses love them! thank you

Your horse doesn't actually need the most expensive outdoor rug that has super dooper themo linings or whatever!
He'll actually make do with two cheaper ones quite happily
- and if your new horse is a different size to your previous one ask your riding club or social group if anyone else has changed horses, chances are they'll be delighted to get rid of two unused rugs for 50 quid! I asked my riding club secretary to put the word out for me (rug wanted!) and she gave me two herself for free

The only problem with cheap rugs is, they tend to rub/slip or the leg straps/surcingle breaks which could potentially lead to an injured horse. I also fnd the fitting is also not as good as more expensive ones which could lead to rubbing at the withers and possible fistulous withers and potentially hugh vet bills which negatate the money saved on buying the rug in the first place. I think the best bet would be not to clip and therefore no need for any rugs if money was that tight.

i got a great rug from ebay over 2 years ago (william funnell royston one) and it has been great, i know about 5 other people who have them as well and all have lasted very well. think they were about 25 pounds off ebay for a medium weight. not sure if they still make them but it was definatly one of my best buys, fits really well, lasted ages and has never rubbed or leaked.
another tip regarding rugs: don't buy a horse who's still growing!

Plan ahead for what you need for the coming season so that you have plenty of time to hunt down the best bargains. I checked e-bay for a couple of months before finding the bargains I needed. A couple of months ago on e-bay I bought a Weatherbeeta Orican medium weight turn out, worn for one winter and then outgrown. It had been freshly washed and reproofed and arrived in perfect condition having cost me the princely sum of £30!

get together with a few other liveries or friends and order wormers, also ask around before you order stuff out of catalogues or internet people others may want to place an order aswell and it saves on the postage.i always ask around if i am going to the tack shop if anybody else needs anything.it all helps save even if it is only time! LOL

Not really horsey, but ... it is a bumper year for brambles/ blackberries, so get out picking in the countryside and make your own jam or jelly. All you have to pay for is the sugar and bramble picking is such a relaxing , satisfying thing to do. I can post up a quick, easy microwave recipe if anyone is interested.
