what a lovely field pic MUCH more appealing I would certainly want to see how she behaved without all those gadgets on and then make up my mind ....... if she is a kind horse then may be worth a look.

well shes a pretty mare but that is an awful load of tack as you say . what we have gag on first hole ? emm so shes strong ............................ maybe the graggle noseband is used to keep the bit in fully so someones had some fun there ? obviously shes allways got her head up hence the martingale to keep it down all the tack looks quite new except the sadlle ?? that looks quite worn maybe back problems there looks like lots needs lots of time could be fun though

i no this might sound silly but i wouldnt let the gadgets put you off the amount of horses i looked at over summer that were absolutly fine ridden in a plain cavesson, and when i asked to see it... but had previously been in a grackle, gag martingale and breastplate just becqause thats what u put on a jumper!

Sophie.. don't reproach yourself about Ryan. You're a fine horsewoman and it could have happened to any of us. Everyone has a story to tell about something that didn't go as expected with their horse. X.

Don't let the gadgets put you off. She looks like she is going out hunting there and everytime I see the hunt go they are bitted and tacked up to the eyeballs just incase... My Red came in a flash, cherry roller, draw reins, martingale... he now hacks out perfectly in a KK lozenge snaffle and no noseband at all!

The only way you will truely know how you feel about her is to go and see her.
Ask to see her ridden in minimum tack, ask as many questions as you can and make your own assessment of her.
Normally that first gut instinct is right.
All the best whatever hun. x

I wouldn't let the tack put you off, some people just put that stuff on automatically. The two people I ride out with have their ponies in gags, flash nosebands and martingales, but neither pony needs them.
She looks very pretty and a bit immature, definately worth a try. With some good schooling I think she'd be smashing.

hmm i agree with most off what has been said and if you look at the post from sarah re muscle tone and lack, then yes she must be very sweet to be going out hunting and jumping with a rider that does not help and hangs onto her mouth she is not able to get her hind legs under her and still throws herself over the jumps and the rider is ignorant to this?? what a sweet mare with a bit of schooling and chilling i think she could be great.go and look who knows with a different rider she may relax? sorry if i spoke out of turn do not want to upset anybody

Echo above,if you do go and see her,def request to have her in a plain snaffle etc.If her temperment isnt a problem then your biggest difficulty could be getting her physically right again. Also echo the comment to ryan and dizzy, dont beat yourself up,we have ALL been there, unless we are exceptionally lucky.xx

I really like the look of her, I could definitely go for her eye, and she just looks a fairly typical Tb type to me. My experience such as it is is that they can have lovely temperaments but be a bit keen and forward thinking, just depends if that's what you're after or not

I'm wondering why they say she needs to be "sent on" when being ridden - particularly as she is a TB, and they are using a gag.

She seems to have a nice eye,and agree with the others about taking an open minded view about the tack overload. I would br concerned about her lack of topline muscle, maybe bad riding, maybe bad saddle fit etc, but definitely needing long term work and care. If you feel curious go and see her, go and watch someone else ride her, and see what "being sent on" means. Try to tease out what you are not being told (ha easier said than done, I know).

I wouldn't let the tack put you off, some people just put that stuff on automatically. This is very true!! Its often the sign of a rider with an eye for a quick fix. Kanga, you strike me as the sort of horsewoman who works on problems rather than go for these solutions, so don't be put off by the gadgets-she may take a lot of work to put right, but she has a lovely face in the field pic-that counts for a lot more than her tack-advertisement supermodel pics Sheesh that was a long sentence!!

Hi Kanga
First reaction is that she is so like the mare my friend just bought minus most of the gadgets. I would go and see her and ask them to change the tack, see someone else ride her in them and if ok try her yourself. Like others have said it might be just habit of gadgeting them up or a fashion thing, loads of ponies at previous yard had the same kit and none of them needed it. I will also put my hand up and say that I find running martingales a comfort thing so something to grab hold of (previous horse was hogged so no mane to grab!).
Def go and see her, is she far from you?

She's miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiles away. I have one to see in Galway first (two hours away), so we'll see how that goes. Blue, who is a dream to ride, came in a flash and a martingale. Hilarious considering his way of going! I don't even have a noseband on him of any kind anymore. Organising Blue to leave first, so gripping myself as you can imagine. Thanks for the super feedback. X.
