Would I die? I'm tempted to try a bit of hunting with Tia but I've never hunted and have a horrible image of being bolted with along with ten other horses into a tree or something awful lol. What exactly does it involve? There's a hunt coming up in February that I'm very tempted to try

If she hacks well in company and has galloped sanely with others, I would say you would be fine. Try to buddy up with another rider for the day, it's very comforting if you both agree to stay together.

There's someone from my yard I could pair up with Apparently Tia's been hunting a few times and "Is fine to pull up...providing there's another horse with her" lol She's a sensible girl but she can get very excited and bolt if I canter to frequently in company, her head starts to explode like a TB..but until that point she's an angel.

If you have never been you had better have a day out on foot first and ask questions, I am sure someone will be pleased to answer them. Also talk the the Secretary about how much Cap they are going to charge you.
Your horse must be fit enough to gallop and don't stay out too long or he will get too tired and that is when injuries and accidents happen. There are things you should know like not galloping on newly-sown seeds and courtesies that should be observed like taking your turn at a fence and getting out of the way if your horse refuses and going to the back of the queue, always turning your horse's head to the hounds, etc. If your horse is good in company, like pleasure rides, etc. he should be OK, although nearly all get a bit excited.
I'm sorry if you know all this, but from reports that I hear not everyone going hunting seems to know the finer points.

all of the above PLUS if you do go, ring first and ask for a nanny.
Enjoy. :-D

There will be a bunch of "whimps" like me! who will spend all day at the back, opening the gates, going around the fences, don't worry. Stick with them and you'll be fine!

Thank you pip, I know don't have a clue so that's a good help. I meant to go and watch the boxing day hunt but I missed it. I shall stick with the "whimps" crowd haha

I would go for it, but buddy up with someone as suggested. Also, find outbefore if they are likely to jump wire/what kind of country they will be crossing and the reputation. I found myself crossing rubble the other day and was not impressed, my horses safety comes first!

I was speaking to somebody who hunts today and they told me that hunting is still very much about foxes,ie; all the stuff about drag hunting etc is just a cover for the law. I dont know whether that applies to all hunts,I would guess not,but if you are anti fox hunting then it may be a good idea to check with somebody who frequents your hunt precisely what will be going on.

Sarahfox....certainly isn't the case with the hunt I ride with/follow but I would say check there reputation, the country they cover etc.
