Hi, was wondering if I was the only one who does not actually own my own horse as such but gets to ride someone elses. ???
Are there any people out there who share a horse/ ride friends horses?
If there is are you happy with this, as I am, or not? Or would you still want to get your own horse one day? :)

After my old horse sadly died, I was sharing my mum's horse Rhilla for a while and also rode a friend's horse at the weekends (she's a nurse and works funny shifts) so me and mum could ride out together. Suited us all for a while because the horse got the extra work she needed, I would do the stable so she didn't need to come up and I had a lovely horse to ride. I missed having my own though so saved up and got Tex. MTA also rode someone else on yard's TB before they sold her as she was doing nothing in the field, worked well for us both again as I would do the horse on the days I was riding and she was a lazy s*d who didn't like mucking out! ;D (It's ok - she's not on the yard anymore :

I have shared/loaned 2 ex racers and they were great shares and lovely horses that taught me so much but the quiet dissatisfaction just nagged nagged nagged away at me as they weren't mine and couldnt manage them and our time together the way I would have chosen meant I gave up the share (on the 2nd horse, the 1st time was because I went away to school). The pull to get my own horse just became too strong and in Sept this year I bought my own darling Criollo. My own 1st pony at the age of 30 . It is very different to me having my own horse and far better and although the responsibility is 100% mine I feel a lot more confident.

Well i'd be happy to share my new mare Pippa with a confident rider as my daughter is only riding her once every 2 weeks at the moment. I ride her when i can but i also ride my cob and i seem to be spending most of my time walking out with my youngest two and a sharer we have for our ponies. When we were at a yard and Elvis was just a baby i use to ride everyones ponies and ponies Well the quieter ones

I ride someone else's horse and I try not to think about it too much. I very much hope that if something happened the owner would realise that accidents happen, eg if I fell off and the horse ran into the road and got hit by a car for example. I have ascertained the horse is insured, which he is, and so I just get on with it. I'd rather ride my own though, mine is much calmer and safer, the other horse I ride is scary and I did fall off him out on a hack on Xmas Eve so I am very wary about getting on him again in the future!

Cool! So I would take it that not everyone owns a horse nessesarily? You can be just as cool without one? )

And probably richer! I only ride the other one cos mine is broken most of the time, and the other horse needs exercising.
