My oldie Guy has impaction colic. I found him upside down (cast) in the stable at 8am yesterday. I pulled him back over to find he has colic.
Vet came straight out and did a rectal and could feel the impaction. He was stomach tubed to re-hydrate him and a few litres of salty water poured down him. He was so distressed we had to sedate him.
He settled a bit until 12.30pm and started again, so out she came again. A dose of muscle relaxant, another internal, and stomach tube this tiem with parafin and he settled.
By 11pm he had had one very small slimey dry roock hard poo. Nothing to eat or drink. He managed another poo, this time much looser at 7am this morning and now is pooing thru the eye of a needle its so runny, green water! He has also had a pee that is now normal colour, not deep yellow.
Vet came out again this morn to stomach tube him, but did not need it as he is slurping very very runny speedibeet with a handful of hi-fi in it. He is not dehydratednow thank goodness. ;D
Please send happy healing vibes for us both.
Am off for a bit of sleep after another quick check up of him. Even the other 5 ponies got all upset, but thankfully have settled now Guy has. The 3 Fell ponies stood looking at his box most of the night, the shetland whinnied each time Guy moved, and Elli his pair bond has totally trashed his stable box walking he was so worried. They are all munching nets now back to normal so I take thaty as a horsey good sign we are over the worst now.
Vet says he is not out of the woods yet, but is hopeful he does not have a fatty loop strangulating his intestine as his pulse is normal. He is much brighter this morn, so have come in (vet says I can now just check him every 4 hrs) and I am going to get some sleep.
I can honestly say it is not good staying up all night in his stable tho it cheered me up when he tried to drink my hot vimto from my flask at 3 am!
Plus my old cat Tomtom has started to be ill aw well! She is 18 yrs old and has lost a bit of weight. She refuses to leave the house and I think may have an inner ear infection as they are itchy and she keeps loosing her balance. Off to also make an appointment for her too!
