Firstly merry Christmas to everyone from us all. It's horrible to think that both the girls wouldn't be here now if I hadn't found this site and linked through to saving them. They are both gorgeous still and have huger than life personalities. They've both now been freeze-marked and had their passports done. And finally, we managed to get Josephine's feet done (every time the farrier has been she has made it impossible to catch her and today was no exception - it took 4 of us more than an hour but we eventually caught her and then although nervous she finally relaxed and had a much needed toe trim). The vet came to look at my other mare and said she thought they both looked really well but the only way to find out if Josephine is pregnant is either to sedate her for a scan or palpation or do a blood test which will be unreliable as we don't know any dates. So, I'm just going to chill out and wait to see what changes, if any, happen in the spring. They are enjoying living out 24/7 and Fleur is an absolute pig when it comes to feeding - she scoffs hay down like there's no tomorrow and when she gets her hard feed she eats half of it then steals Josephine's and then rolls on it! Am looking forward to the spring when I can get some stables built and bring them in for some quality handling and ground work training. Some photos from today for those who are interested - 'scuse the mud and living out look, the weather has been awful last night and this morning...

Yes, the donkey gets on really well with them - in fact, this morning after I had put hay in the 2 field shelters they all decided it was much nicer to cram into 1 together!! I really should have saved some money and not bought 3 (I use one for hay storage as they just didn't go in as they don't like to be separated). I am deciding on what stables to get next spring and will splash out on talk grilles between stables as I think they might miss the company next winter in one stable each!
My bay mare in the photos was funny with her for the first week (she's a terrible snob!) but now they all love each other and are a very strongly bonded herd. The bay is the leader and decides where they will eat and when and how much and they really miss her when I take her for a ride but Fleur and Josephine groom each other a lot and share the same hay pile and shelter regularly!!
Please post updates, I really look forward to them!

Thats just great! sounds to have worked out really well for you.I love donkeys but I had a mule on loan for a short time and she seemed to hate every one of our ponies! We have talk grilles between ours, they are great and the horses defo relax more.Just try and place them so that they arent directly by the door or feeding area as they can get cross having another horse so near their food.Yours may not mind as they are so close but stables are there for a long time.
